Shonda Rhimes To Produce Romeo And Juliet Sequel For ABC

Everyone seems to love Shondaland! Shonda Rhimes will have a fifth show on ABC. ABC confirmed that they have ordered a pilot of Still Star-Crossed, a sort of sequel to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

The one-hour period drama based on Melinda Taub’s 2013 novel, chronicles the fallout from the legendary lovers’ deadly acts. The novel takes place after the deaths of Romeo and Juliet and focuses on the still feuding Capulets and Montagues. According to Still-Star Crossed’s synopsis, the families decide that the only way to end the bloody feud is by marriage. The families pick two unwilling, but probably very good looking, teens.

Heather Mitchell, who has worked on Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, will write and executive-produce, with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers attached as non-writing Executive Producers. Variety adds, "For Shondaland, the foray into young romance marks somewhat of a new genre, following the more mature relationships in current hits “Grey’s,” “Scandal,” “How To Get Away with Murder” and former medical drama “Private Practice.”
