Hermès’ New Silk Scarves Depict South African Art

Keeping in sync with the house’s theme for 2016, La Nature, Hermès has unveiled two new silk scarves that reflect the work of an African art collective of Zulu, Zimbabwean and Sotho potters based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Hermès makes its easy to flaunt your love for nature and the wildlife in the most elegant manner!

The French fashion house has collaborated with a South African art studio called Ardmore Ceramics to create a collection of scarves. Ardmore is renowned for its exuberant, exotic style exalting flora and fauna featuring flourishes like elephants and monkeys or palms and proteas. Hermès is offering The Savana Dance and La Marche du Zambèze, created by Zimbabwe painter Sydney Nyabeze, in selected Hermès boutiques, as well as online.

Available for $395 in ten colors, La Marche du Zambèze features a majestic elephant along with the creatures of his kingdom including giraffe, zebra, leopard and crocodile. The river’s flora is silhouetted all around the composition, off-setting the rich patterns of python and crocodile skin.

The Savana Dance illustrates a monkey being chased by a leopard. Giant King Protea (South Africa’s national flower) is seen in full bloom and the scraf is framed with a border of amazumpa motifs, used in Zulu pottery. Made from vintage silk, it comes in various colorways and is up for $300.
