Mansory debuts Gold Rolls Royce

If the mighty Rolls-Royce Wraith comes up short in one area, it is in its less-than-liberal use of Element 79 — aka, gold. Well, German tuner and style shop Mansory has remedied that with the Palm Edition 999, a mercifully limited-production Wraith that gleams with all the subtlety of Liberace's loo.

The two-tone paint job is new, as are the 22-inch alloy wheels, and the Wraith's R-R emblems have been pried off and replaced with Mansory badges plated in .999 pure gold. Mansory also revised the Wraith's appearance with a scoopy carbon fibre aero kit, complete with twinkling LED lights and lip spoilers on the roof and decklid. The cabin features more of the same. Although most of the 999's golden upgrades are faux, Mansory is quick to note that upon request, any and all metallic parts, inside or out, can be dipped in the real stuff.

And because you can't spell "gold" without "go", Mansory has given the Wraith’s 6.6-litre V12 engine a healthy upgrade. Power jumps from an ample 624 horsepower to a downright silly 730, which snips the 5,400lb coupé's zero-to-62mph sprint from 4.6 to 4.4 seconds and bumps the top speed from an electronically governed 155mph to a freewheeling 186mph.

Mansory plans to build a scant nine examples of the Palm Edition 999. Pricing has not been revealed, but let's be honest, do you really need to know?
