Girard-Perregaux’s New Tourbillon Repeater Strikes the Right Chord
When Girard-Perregaux made its first modern foray into minute repeating watches a few years ago, it did so using the well-regarded Fabrique du Temps movement. By marrying the complication to its signature three-gold bridge tourbillon, the brand has made a far more creative piece of haute horlogerie that is more impressive than the sum of its complications. The Minute Repeater Tourbillon with Gold Bridges ($395,000) exhibits the balanced movement architecture that has made Girard-Perregaux’s wristwatch tourbillons so influential for nearly a quarter-century. The repeater mechanism has been re-engineered with the striking hammers elevated to the dial side, where they share the upper portion of the watch with the racks. Together with the tourbillon, they make a compelling display on the wrist. Tuning, which is performed in-house, has yielded excellent sound quality, making a worthy match for the visual feast the brand has constructed.
