Manhattan will be the home of the world’s largest Starcbucks
Manhattan may be forever the land of Sex and the City inspired cosmopolitans, but the city also has a decidedly less alcoholic beverage to call its own: Coffee. Rarely can you walk through the streets of this high rise paradise without spotting someone clutching a coffee cup like a lifeline, and now the coffee lovers of the borough have something to look forward to. Manhattan will soon become the home of the largest Starbucks store in the world.
The coffee giant will open their largest outlet 61 Ninth Avenue, in the Meatpacking district. The establishment will be a two storey, 20,000 sq. foot haven that will include elements of coffee roasting, manufacturing, education and retail and will be inspired by the first Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle, Washington.
“Our Seattle Roastery experience created something that had never been done before, transforming a retail environment into something far beyond just a coffeeshop and into the single best retail experience of any kind,” said Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks. “In New York, we want to take elements from what we originally created and build something even bigger and bolder, celebrating coffee and craft in a completely unique and differentiated way. We want this experience to tell our customers that we’re coming to Broadway.”
The Roastery will be part of a new building will be designed by Rafael Viñoly and is slated to open sometime in 2018.
