Facebook is Testing Out a Snapchat-Like Feature

Facebook is testing out a feature that allows posts to appear on news feeds but not on timelines.

This is totally Snapchat-inspired! Facebook is testing out a new feature that changes how users create status updates. Now you will be able to post the update only to the news feed without also having it on your timeline.

The feature is meant for those who want to post something that will appear for a few days on their friends' feeds but may not want it on their timeline forever. It will, however, still show up in search results. The update will likely encourage Facebookers to share short-lived content or random news without it staying front and center on their social-media page forever.

While some users are excited about the new way of sharing, others have expressed that it’s not much different than what Facebook already offers. Previously, you could hide individual posts from your timeline after the fact, and even choose the specific audience you wanted to see your posts.

“The Timeline on your profile is a great place to see a comprehensive history of your Facebook posts,” Facebook representatives told The Next Web. “We’ve heard feedback that sometimes you may want to share a post with friends and family via News Feed and not have that post be displayed on your Timeline. The ability to hide a post from your Timeline already exists, and today we’re testing a feature that would make it even easier to control where your posts live by giving you the option to publish a post only to News Feed and not to your Timeline.”
