VIDEO: Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV Spot Drops During ABC #TGIT Special

Force Friday! Disney surprised fans by presenting a Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV spot on Thursday, Nov. 12, during ABC’s #TGIT programming — and the 60-second preview looks epic.

The network’s Thursday night block — featuring Shonda Rhimes’ smash dramas Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder — featured various cast members from the shows discussing their love for Star Wars. Rhimes, 45, then announced the trailer.

The 60-second trailer, featuring both previously released and new scenes, shows Han Solo (Harrison Ford) giving Rey (Daisey Ridley) a mystery weapon. “You’re going to need this,” he says.

Rey and Finn — played by another newcomer, John Boyega — are seen holding hands in another clip as they run from a TIE fighter attack on them. In the adrenaline-pumping scene, they are fired upon by the winged aircraft. In another snippet from the movie, Finn attacks a Stormtrooper with the symbolic blue lightsaber that’s also featured in other scenes in the trailer.

In the concluding moments of the segment, Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, sits around a table with Fisher’s Princess Leia at a Resistance base, alongside Han Solo and C-3PO.

The tagline “every generation has a story” also hints that the two young leads in the film may be related to beloved characters from previous films in the series.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters Dec. 18.
