It is often proclaimed that educational attainment is larger for black women than it is for black men, black men in general continue to fall far behind in their rates of college completion. In order for the black man to change the stereotype the individual must understand his own self-image, possess self-esteem, have a strong internal locus of control, have family support, and, have the willingness to grow personally and intellectually. Hamilton Raymond comes from a background where he saw the actions of young men his age did not foster success. After going through a life changing experience Hamilton decided to devote his life to finding out the barriers between young black men and the pursuit of higher education.
