Harrods In-House Furniture Collection
Harrods has joined forces with two heavyweights in the furniture industry: Italian company Porada and British company Artistic Upholstery, to create the first line of in-house furniture. Harrods’ director of home Annalise Fard is behind this initiative; Fard has brought considerable change to Harrods, including bringing brands like Tom Dixon and Kelly Wearstler to the department store.
The debut collection will include cabinetry, tables, a console, armchairs and a sofa, and draws inspiration from 1930s art deco jewelry and tailoring. “Harrods Interiors who often work on bespoke pieces of furniture for residential projects they are managing, identified the 1930s art-deco aesthetic as a style appreciated by many of their clients,” Fard stated. “It’s a period that’s reminiscent of a timeless and elegant feel so seemed like a perfect starting point.”
Harrods has stocked Porada furniture since 1994 and now the Italian brand brings its expertise to Harrods’ latest venture by helping the Harrods Interiors team overcome challenges such as creating a consistent finish for the satin brass details, which are integral to tying the collection together, appearing as handles, trims, and inlaid brass alike.
“We wanted to make sure that wherever possible, the grain and the natural features of the wood remained visible – and Ziricote was perfect for this as it has such a distinctive movement within the wood. The doors of the Carraway drinks cabinet are the perfect example of this, the grain of the wood is juxtaposed with a geometric satin-brass inlay for an even more striking effect,” said Fard.
