2018 Range Rover Velar
A couple of days back, we did a list of top 9 most anticipated performance cars to be launched at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and the Range Rover Velar featured on the 8th position. But back then, the Velar was yet to be captured on camera without camouflage covers. Two weeks ahead of its official launch at the Geneva Show, Land Rover has finally taken the wraps off the luxury off-roader and boy it looks good! The Range Rover Velar is LR’s answer to the sporty Porsche Macan and the BMW X6. It is the fourth offering in the Range Rover line-up and is placed in the gap between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.
In terms of the styling, the Velar looks like a blend between the styling of the Evoque and the bigger Range Rover Sport along with some completely fresh design elements. All the exterior as well as the interior lights are LEDs and Land Rover says the Velar is the most aerodynamic Range Rover ever, with a drag coefficient of just 0.32. The squat shape of the car is enhanced by the dark glass roof which is absolutely massive.
On the inside, Land Rover has taken ‘elegant styling’ to a whole new level with clean and classy interiors. The center stage inside the car is its OLED touchscreen center-stack, which is a three-tiered set of screens to control the infotainment functions along with climate control and vehicle settings. In addition to the standard leather interior, the Velar can be bought with a special ‘Kvadrat’ interior option which combines Alcantara with a unique fabric that is a blend of 30 per cent wool and 70 per cent polyester.
Land Rover has launched the Velar with a wide line-up of engines. Along with sharing the underpinnings with the Jaguar F-Pace, the Velar will use many of the same engines, including the 180-hp turbodiesel and 380-hp turbocharged V6, and all-wheel drive will be standard. A 247-hp four-cylinder Ingenium petrol-powered engine will also be available at launch, with a 300-hp variant arriving later. The most affordable Range Rover Velar will go on sale with a price-tag of £44,830 ($54,800 approximately).
