"BRAND OF THE WEEK" - Annette "Casper" Dejesus
Ms. Annette C. De Jesus is the C.E.O of Twin Park Kids Inc. & the Sweet and Salty show. Born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx. Her organization was established in 2004 when she saw a need to give the youth a positive place to be and help them with the peer pressure. With her organization she was able to help youth get involved and help there community. She educated the youth in the importance of taking care of your community and becoming positive role models. With the organization the youth learned how to fund raise, how important the elections and our elected officials are, how to open bank accounts, take care of there credit, and the proper professional way to talk to important people, just to name a few of the many things they learned. The youth from the organization played the life of a young girl killed in gun violence that was played for two years. They also get to make public service announcements (commercials). A few of the twin Park kids Inc. were nominated for a few awards from the community board , Majority leader Joel Rivera and scholarships from the New York Yankees.
Ms. De Jesus has been a resident of little Italy for about 40 years. She was born from Puerto Rican Parents Angelita and Juan De Jesus, she has two sisters, Milagros and Daisy and one brother Nelson. Ms. De Jesus has three boys Freddy and Alex that she already raised and left the home they are both high school graduates and both served the United States Navy. She also has Steven that she is presently raising. All her boys were adopted. Ms. De Jesus has been the mother to many more children that she has opened her home and heart. Those children are now adults and still currently call her mom and keep in touch with her.
Ms. Dejesus in 1977 she graduated from Taft high school and continued her education by attending Borough of Manhattan Collage graduation in 1980 with a liberal arts Degree. Ms. Dejesus has also completed courses in photography & film developing, Tax preparer, Children’s Aids Society (M.A.P.S), Animal Care and Control, & Citizens Police Academy, Travel & Cruise & Hotel, Patient Navigator.
Ms. De Jesus has been a very busy community activist since the tender age of 18 while attending collage she started raising money for cerebral palsy. A cause very dear to her heart done in honor of her sister Milagros that has Cerebral Palsy. Ms. De Jesus challenge herself to ride a bike from Union City New Jersey to the finish line in the Bronx for sponsors. Something she is very humble to have done in her sister’s name. She did that for three years and in her spare time she started teaching and helping children in her community dance and arts. She became very involved in group dancing and master of ceremonial at events like sweet 16 and shows, and weddings while doing security for the hot radio station la Mega.
Ms. De Jesus managed three dance groups for five years and show cased them in the TV and also made many videos and a movie. The names of her group were as followed, Down City Dancers, a mixed group of guys and girls that dance freestyle and breakers, Sugar Magnolias, a group of girl dancers, and Hot Feet Rockers (Rock Steady second division) mix group of girls and guys all breakers.
Ms. De Jesus plays a very active part in varies organizations like Grandparents Around the world, N.Y.A.G.V ,Grandparents Ball, American Cancer society, Grandparents Walk-a thon ,Stride for breast cancer awareness, relay for life, M.O.M ,National Night Out, Community Board 6, Bronx Puerto Rican Parade, Bronx Puerto Rican Pageants, New York Blood to name a few.
Ms. De Jesus accomplishments in helping her community have gotten her recognition in a few news papers, News interviews, and many awards and citations. She received numerous awards from the American Cancer Society, The Bronx Puerto Rican Parade Inc, El Baty de Dona Provi, Community Service award, Twin Park Kids Inc crystal plack, Transforme plack, Helping P.S 32 plack, A Bronx Hero Plack, N.Y.A.G.V Plack, To name a few.
Ms. De Jesus with her organization Twin Park Kids Inc Has an annual street block party to cater to all the kids in the community, going into her 6th year Unity Day sets the day for all the kids in the neighborhood to just have fun. At the end of the event it’s like Christmas in July with the give always for the children. Unity Day is also the day we Give recognition for those that have gone above and beyond the call of there community.
Ms. De Jesus presently is active member with the foxy family and has taken part of Super Sandy Hurricane where we all together help organize and collect donations in partnership of Majority Leader Joel Rivera, we helped at the Armory, we was also a part of a Halloween fund raiser for Domestic Violence, the foxy pet Christmas party, and a candle light vigil for the 26 Sandy Victims held on the steps of 161 ST.
