For Audemars Piguet, astronomical observation has played a huge part in the inspiration behind some of their most exceptional timepieces, such as the Perpetual Calendar complication, one of the most iconic complications in the history of Haute Horlogerie.
Limited to 100 pieces in pink gold, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Latin America Edition watch has a pink gold dial with the “Grande Tapisserie” motif, matching rose gold hands and blue hemispheres. Not only is the case and bracelet made of 18kt rose gold, the engraved rotor is also made of gold, visible through the sapphire case back.
Beating inside this new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Quantième Perpétuel for Latin America is a self-winding movement, a new in-house automatic calibre 5134 is based on its predecessor the calibre 2120. The movement has a total thickness of 4.31 mm and a diameter of 29.00 mm. Composed of 374 parts and 38 jewels, the movement provides a power reserve of 40 hours while oscillating at a frequency of 19,800 vph.
The timepiece boasts a unique dial configuration equipped with a special oscillating weight engraved with “Audemars Piguet”. The oscillating weight is guided by a peripheral ring rolling on four ruby runners, which reduces friction and wear to the minimum possible. The moonphase indicator, laser microstructured, laid on aventurine that requires correction every 125 years and 317 days.
The launch of this special edition watch was marked by a dinner created by Mexican chef Enrique Olvera in the sumptuous setting of the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City, one of the city’s most iconic and emblematic cultural venues. During dinner, guests were shown notable examples from over the past century which Audemars Piguet has dedicated to constant improvement in creating and developing perpetual calendars.
The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar ref. 26584OR.OO.1220OR.01 will exclusively sell through AP authorized retailers throughout Latin America.
