Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off its Porsche Panamera-rivaling GT 4-Door Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show this year. To celebrate its launch, the German automaker has announced a special edition version of it that will only available for the first 12 months after production begins. Dubbed the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Edition 1, it is based on the fastback’s range-topping 63 S model and features exclusive interior and exterior treatments. On the outside, the special edition features the AMG Aerodynamics Package that adds a larger front splitter, an optimized diffuser, and a mechanically adjustable fixed rear spoiler. Mercedes claims the package increases downforce without generating additional drag. Additionally, the model gets 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels with a choice of three different body colors: designo graphite grey magno, diamond white bright and graphite grey metallic. Accentuating the paintjob are AMG stripes in matte Graphite Grey, located above the side sill panels.
On the inside, the AMG Performance seats are wrapped in nappa leather finished in magma grey/black with yellow contrasting topstitching. The microfibre AMG Performance steering wheel also has yellow contrasting topstitching and AMG matt carbon fiber trim. The special edition gets the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood as the standard model, which produces 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It can go from zero to 60mph in 3.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 195 mph. The Edition 1 will debut at the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at Germany’s famous Nürburgring racetrack this weekend, ahead of the start of sales in Europe this summer. However, the AMG GT 63 S will only go on sale in the U.S. in early 2019.
