“Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine” by Chanel
The life and childhood of Gabrielle Chanel has provided the French brand with inspiration that resulted in interesting collections. This year, Chanel is honouring its founder once again by releasing a new watch to its “Mademoiselle Privé” ladies collection. The launch of the limited edition “Mademoiselle Privé Aubazine” — only five pieces have been made — is one that is well timed as it occurs just weeks before the highly anticipated Baselworld 2017.
The collection is one that celebrates the symbols and objects that had left a lasting impression in the life of the designer and the latest addition is no different. The inspiration for this year’s jewellery watch is the Cistercian stained glass windows that can be found in the Aubazine Abby located in Southwestern France. The design of the stained glass is replicated almost to a tee using diamonds and white gold. Her connection to the location stems from her childhood that was spent at the orphanage in the abbey.
The 37.5mm 18-karat white gold case is covered 552 brilliant-cut diamonds while the crown is fitted with one diamond that measures 0.19 carats. The dial, which is the highlight of the timepiece, features diamonds in a variety of cuts and white gold threads that aid in giving it that sparkle. Featuring brilliant-cut diamonds, baguette-cut diamonds and specifically-cut diamonds, the dial alone carries 2.68 carats. Defining the various lines that make up the dial, are black rhodium plated white gold threads while 18-karat white gold hands tell the time.
Completing the timepiece is a black satin strap that is accompanied by an 18-karat white gold buckle that is set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds that weigh in at 0.4 carats. Boasting some of the finest craftsmanship by the brand’s experts, the timepiece that will most certainly be a star at the watch and jewellery show from March 23 to 30.
