Ulysse Nardin brings the burlesque to life with a new beautiful and complex timepiece
Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin sought inspiration for their new watch in the vibrant and glamorous world of burlesque. The brand’s Hourstriker Pin-Up feature painted dials and Jaquemarts to bring the dramatic world of Burlesque theatre and dance to life.
The watch is available in gold and platinum variants and on its dial is a delicately painted dancer complete with an extravagantly detailed outfit made up of peacock feathers. The highly skilled in-house miniature painters at Ulysse Nardin used acrylic colors to meticulously create this ultra detailed design. Depending on the complexity, the designs could take anywhere between 50 and 90 hours to complete.
The uniqueness of the watch are the tiny jaquemarts – mini automatons that strike the hours on a bell. In this watch, the when the bell chimes, the peacock’s wings and tailfeathers move to reveal the dancer’s nude body. You can also push a button to activate the function. You’ve certainly seen quirky automatons before, but perhaps not one quite so risqué!
Created in a limited edition of 28 rose gold and platinum timepieces the watch is powered by the Caliber UN-610 automatic movement which has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and can be seen through the sapphire window in the caseback. Both the platinum and rose gold versions come in 43-mm-diameter cases that are water-resistant to 30 meters, and feature a black leather strap with folding buckle.
